What is Bio-Touch? Is it like Reiki? How does it work? I’ve been asked these questions often. A couple of years ago I wrote a post answering these questions and even a post on the experience my clients had with this gentle touch healing. Over the last year my journey with Bio-Touch has brought me closer to the founding members of the International Foundation of Bio-Magnetics and I decided to get some answers from one if the first few people to have learnt and practiced this technique in the 70s. Here’s an interview with Paul Bucky, the founder of Bio-Touch and International Foundation of Bio-Magnetics – a federally approved educational and charitable foundation where this technique is taught and practiced.
Tell us about your journey towards Bio-Touch?
When I was 5 I made a wish on my birthday where I asked for health and happiness for everyone. I don’t know where the thought came from. I am a first generation Jew of the post Nazi Germany and I think we carry the trauma of our ancestors. I believe that’s what made me wish for health and happiness for everyone at that age. I actually felt that I had to bring peace and happiness back to the planet.
During college I was completely flipping out. My parents had broken up, I was spitting blood, taking Valium; so at that time I did what anyone would do – look for “spiritual guidance”. I went to all sorts of spiritual teachers – right and wrong – did yoga and meditation, became a hippie and left society. A few years later, in 1989, when I moved back to the Mancos – a small town in Colorado State, I felt this pain in my back that went all through my leg and to my toes. I didn’t believe in doctors and healers back then so I tried every self-healing technique that I knew but the pain didn’t go away. People in the town told me about this guy Norman – a mining engineer – who did healing work. So I went to him and all he did was take two fingers and touched me at different points. After a couple of more sessions the pain was completely gone. It was amazing.
I started listening to stories that other people in the town shared; people from different cultures and backgrounds who wouldn’t generally talk to each other would come to Norman’s house, sit together and talk. And then one day one of the old timers said to me, “You know what Paul? Norman and Carol (his wife) brought love to the Mancos valley.” I was looking for it in all those spiritual gurus, yoga and meditation and here it was, in a small town of 900 people, the idea of love. That’s when I thought that we need to get this out to the public. We created the public teaching of Bio-Touch with Norman. We took up Mancos Valley Hotel and turned it into a Bio-Touch centre.
What is Bio-Touch and how does it work?
Bio-Touch is a simple hands-on healing technique utilizing a light “butterfly-like” touch. Take two fingers and gently touch another person on the skin, that’s what Bio-Touch is. There are different sets of points for different pains and diseases. It’s consistently effective if you touch someone else. It doesn’t work that well when you do it to yourself because it’s difficult to completely dissociate yourself from your own pain.
Bio-Touch works on love, it’s simple. You don’t have to centre yourself, bring in the light, and protect yourself from people etc. to learn Bio-Touch. It’s a lot about self-awareness. We don’t find a place for you, you find your own place; we don’t diagnose. The points come from Norman; they came to him as he stood in front of people to heal them. He started noticing patterns in these points and slowly started jotting them down. So when I spoke to him about taking it to people, he already had some rough sketches of all the points he had discovered.
Does Bio-Touch have roots in ancient therapy?
I went to Egypt a few years ago and met this gentleman named Abd’el Hakim Awyan, an Archaeologist and Egyptologist; his daughter Shahrzad Awyan had learnt Bio-Touch in Hawaii. He told me that this is actually an ancient Kemetic (Egypt was referred to as Kemet in its early period) healing technique. We are not sure if it’s the same technique but it certainly gives a twist to the depth of what Bio-Touch technique can do.
Who can learn Bio-Touch and what problems does it cure?
Anyone can learn Bio-Touch, it’s that simple. If the body can hold a problem, Bio-Touch can address it.
Does Bio-Touch work along with conventional treatment?
Bio-Touch works with whatever you believe is important for your health. It doesn’t get in the way of any other kind of healing or medical treatment. It only enhances those other things. We address the body. We don’t mess with your mind, we don’t tell you what to eat or not to eat. It’s you, your body and your spirit or guide or angel that knows what’s best for you. You go to a doctor and you will know whether your doctor is on the right track or not. The thing is that we are not brought up believing in ourselves. We go to other people to fix us. Bio-Touch is about self-awareness. It’s a technique that helps you get in touch with your body and then believe what you need. It might make you realize that your body needs that surgery that you have been putting off for a while and prepare you for it.
Can you share some of your experiences and client stories?
I got a call from a woman once whose husband went scuba diving and his lungs were hurting since past one week. The doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him. She wanted to know how to learn to do Bio-Touch. I told her to become a member, download the manual and call me back to know the set of points. I took her through it over the phone. She was doing Bio-Touch in relation to standard medical care and after a few sessions the husband started getting better. So as a holistic practice it works with everything.

What are the researches that have been done for Bio-Touch?
The research on Bio-Touch was started in 2000 with Dr Gary Schwartz, PhD, who was running the University of Arizona Human Energy Systems Laboratory. Bio-Touch was one of the first energy modalities that he studied. The data was conclusive that there was significant reduction in pain & stress, with participants also feeling more relaxed and cared for.
A year later that project was replicated, which is an important part of research, and blood pressure measurements were added. Again, the data showed a drop in stress and pain with a significant drop in those folks who had high blood pressure. Read the detailed research here: https://www.justtouch.com/univeristy-arizona-research/
In 2003 Dr Kenna Stephenson with the University of Texas at Tyler, did a research project that entailed measuring hormone levels and having all the participants take a standardized quality of life questionnaire. That questionnaire measures 4 emotional and 4 physical domains. Read the detailed research here: https://www.justtouch.com/research-results-winter-2003-university-of-texas-health-center-at-tyler/
The data showed that everyone had improved in all 8 domains. It also found that night time cortisol levels went to normal and there was a rise in what is called Interleukin 12 levels (known as a T cell stimulating factor which improves immune system responses).
Due to these results Dr Stephenson was able to show that by adding Bio-Touch to our usual chronic stressful life and accelerated aging process, we could improve the quality of our life and increase the activity of genes that fight infection and cancer. All data showed that by adding Bio-Touch we could promote healthy aging. See the stress chart https://www.justtouch.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Stress-Cycle-Chart.pdf
And finally in 2012, Dr Carole McKenzie who was the Director of Nursing at Northwestern Oklahoma State University incorporated Bio-Touch into the Nursing curriculum. Each semester all students would learn Bio-Touch and the seniors would end their studies with a research project. Again this was a replication of the other protocols. Each semester the data showed a significant reduction in pain and stress, with participants feeling more relaxed. The data was so conclusive that the school of nursing was offered the opportunity to present the findings at an international nursing conference.
Whatever the reason was that people felt they were getting helped, that was good enough for me. Part of me knows that Bio-Touch works – with or without research.
It’s time we come back together and form relationships on love again, it’s time we reach across the aisle and touch one another with a simple thing called love for the purpose of healing.
